Plot The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023) movie

After King Edward’s death, Aethelstan kills his own brother and chases Queen Eadgifu and Prince Edmund. While Eadgifu and Edmund are under the protection of Lord Uhtred, King Anlaf invades Northumbria. Aethelstan trusts Ingilmunder and makes him his advisor. Uhtred helps Aethelstan become a king, but he doesn’t expect the young king to betray his brother and honor.

Ingilmunder is Anlaf’s spy and convinces Aethelstan to punish Uhtred and Aldhelm. While Uhtred makes the ambush and offers Aethelstan peace, Anlaf invades the country. He makes new allies with the kings of Man, Shetland, Orkney, and Strathclyde. Christian servant betrayed her lord, and he is captured. As a result, his son, Osbert surrendered the castle. Both royal sons, Osbert and Edmund, are taken as hostages.

While Uhtred was captured by the Danes, Anlaf’s mercenaries kill the women of Bebbanberg in the cave because he refused to betray Aethelstan. Eventually, Osbert and Edmund survive, and Uhtred convince others to stay united against the enemy. They can win if they follow the plan and Aethelstan attacks at the right moment.

English forces use the tactic and beat Danish. As a result, five heirs of the kings fell during the Battle of Brunanburh. They will never be the kings that’s why current kings of Scotland, Man, Shetland, Orkney and Strathclyde abandon Anlaf. Eventually, Uhtred is injured, and Ingilmunder executed by Aethelstan. Finally, England exists because of Uhtred and his ability to unite people as one nation.
